We marked the completion of our first hundred years with a weekend celebration at Castle Combe incorporating our annual Dick Mayo Sprint. This was especially appropriate given our long association with Castle Combe Circuit, which goes back to 1950 when we converted this disused WWII airfield into a race circuit.
The Centenary Celebration featured a display, static and on-track, of historic competition and other vehicles covering all the years since the club was founded. Not forgetting our origins as a motorcycle club, there were two-wheeled displays as well as the cars. It was the culmination of several months of painstaking work by the organising team, led by Mark Tooth.
Joining us on this very special occasion were members past and present, together with friends of the Club. For many it was something of a reunion; for all of us it was an opportunity to meet long-serving and past members and to share their abundant memories. On this hot sunny Sunday in June we all enjoyed a glass of chilled bubbly and shared a superb buffet lunch with our guests.
Amongst those representing the Motor Sports Association was General Secretary Rob Jones, who presented the club with the MSA’s prestigious Centenary Award. It was graciously received by possibly our longest-serving active member, Chris Bigwood, and then to round off the ceremonies, club Chairman Allen Harris invited members and guests to raise their glasses in a toast to the next hundred years of the Bristol Motor Cycle & Light Car Club.
